Capitol Records, however, released Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with only modest approval for the album's title track. I Kissed a Girl, a confident song about her sexual inclinations with a hard-edged electronic pop beat, gained a greater impact a few months later. It was not a popular song in that critics had criticized it for encouraging same-sex relationships and other charged that the song depicted a racy scene that appealed to male fantasies of female sexuality.
